Before the release by the BLS, consensus for CPI Inflation was +0.4% Month over Month (MoM), and +5.0% Year over Year (YoY) for April 2023. Core Inflation Consensus was 5.5%.
The initial actual CPI Inflation for April 2023 was reported at 8:30 by the BLS was +0.4% Month over Month (MoM), and +4.9% Year over Year (YoY) for April 2023. Core Inflation came in at 5.5%.
So while this came in at forecast, and no doubt news media reports by news anchors will report that it is ‘within’ consensus, it needs highlighted that yes, we saw another increase. A significant aspect of the report was the increase in used cars and apparel.
