GTC Sample Portfolio: Buying a Small Piece of an ETF (SPHD)

As stated in the first article for the GTC Sample Portfolio, we’re keeping our quantitative processes private, but will share the moves we make on an actual portfolio. And please note our risk statement.

There has not been a lot to do as of late with this Sample portfolio. I don’t mind specifying, that at the present time, what we are doing is adding small pieces of some core positions that I like to keep; and building them up slowly via the ruleset of one particular process. Thus, today, I thought we could buy just a little SPHD for the Sample Portfolio here. Buying 13 shares of SPHD at $42.31. If I need to, I can always buy more SPHD later to lower the cost-basis (and more COST, UNP and KR as well).

But we don’t have to be posting something constantly. The processes used in this sample portfolio, revolve around a key concept I have used in the past.

Return on Effort

You don’t have to be making moves each and every day (especially with a new portfolio), in order to see gains. There are quantitiative processes available, that require very minimal effort; and you can see great gains.

I was thinking about taking a short position in an Equities Index this afternoon? And such a position may appear here in the future? But at the moment? I’m ‘checking’ on any such active trades at the moment. I have to see a bit more from the market.

At the moment? I look across various asset classes, and the processes I’m using for this sample portfolio? This is really the only move there is to make for this particular portfolio

We will soon post an update to the Sample Portfolio page; showing the grid, metrics, etc. At this point, it’s all so new, that there isn’t much to post. But it is coming.
